The meet up point is Boggy Lane in the village of Church Broughton. There are no car parks nearby so it’s a case of parking in the village. It’s a gentle ride out to the Dovedale area approaching Thorpe Cloud owned by the National Trust, and out past Ilam Hill (which is good for reps if there isn’t much traffic).

It’s an Official Midlands Climb ranked hill with a 1.43 mile length, Ascent of 168 metres, Average Gradient of 7.4% and maximum gradient of up to 15-17% in the steeper mid-sections.

After passing through Ilam, and out via Alstonefield, theres one uncategorised short sharp hill immediately after turning left on a small road. Straight to bottom gear for that one. Theres one short distance to be cycled on a main road after this, before turning right and heading towards Carsington Water reservoir for something to eat.

47 miles with 4,000 feet of climbing. We should be back at the cars by 14:30.
