Tuesday Away Day 2 - Peak District
The ride is 44 miles, 4,600ft of climbing.Route is here https://connect.garmin.com/app/course/491379863
Message from Graham Outterside
"This ride starts near Hathersage in the Peak District. Previous rides have been held in December but they were curtailed by the weather and the limited daylight hours, so holding the ride in August should give much better weather. The downside is that the roads, particularly Winnats Pass climb and Edale, will be busier. I have used Hathersage car parks before but they require an App to park and the mobile coverage is rubbish - and they dont take cards directly, so I have opted for the National Trust Car park at Longshaw Estate - Woodcroft."
Whatthreewords car park ///puzzle.stack.copy
If you are a National Trust member, bring your card. If not, you will have to pay so bring coins just in case.
Meet at 09:45 for 10:00 start
https://maps.app.goo.gl/xVk7UbFJpbW2VTWE8
If for some reason the car park is full, go south on the A625 to the NT car park called Wooden Pole and park there. Its a mile or so on the right.
The route loops around Mam Tor, Edale, Winnats Pass and the Hope Valley, so you are mostly up or down. The route goes down towards Eyam, and loops North up to Hope, before going through Castleton and up Winnats Pass from the East, the shallow but long way. There are no easy ways to the top of Winnats Pass.
At the top, the route loops west towards Chapel en le Frith and back towards Grindlow, to again go North to Hope. This time however the route goes further North into Edale and up the back route to the top of Winnats pass - a more steep, shorter route from the West. We then roll down Winnats Pass towards Castleton (possible stop at Three Roofs Cafe), and back to Hope for a break at 28 miles if Castleton is too busy. As its summer holidays, w e will need to be flexible on where to stop to eat.
From Hope, its along the Hope Valley for another 10 miles, passing through Hathersage back to the starting point, with the last climb to reach the starting point.
Finish will be around 15:30
Its 90 minutes drive to Grindleford area from Lincoln.
Sunday Club Ride to Caistor
Graham Outterside is the leader this Sunday.
This weekend ride starts near Dunholme at the Village Hall. Please use the overflow car park through the yellow archway. Departure Time is 09:00
Location ///haircuts.nibble.trying
We will be heading North east towards the Wolds and after passing through Market Rasen, we will reach the long drag up to the top at Walesby. This is the only hill on the route. At the top we turn left along the B1225 to Caistor. Even though this is a B road, it came be quite busy as it runs along the top of the Wolds so single file for a couple of miles until we head left off the main road and carefully cross the A46 Caistor Bypass into Caistor itself. We leave Caistor on the Brigg Road, to head down to the Wolds Edge Cafe which is on the left. We should arrive there at 23 miles.
After the cafe we retrace our steps, back up (the short climb) to Caistor and rejoin the A46 Caistor bypass and head south. After a short distance, we turn off right towards Morton to avoid staying on the bypass as it's steep downhill, it's got a really rough surface and potholes galore. This is on the route for the Tour of Britain so they might fix it soon. We rejoin the A46 further down, before turning right off the A46 shortly thereafter and into the lanes near North Owersby and wind our way back almost directly south towards Welton and Dunholme.
Total Distance is 47 miles
Stop is at 23 miles
Total Climb is only 1,320ft despite Walesby Hill so it has less climbing than a trip down to Velo Verde and most of the route is flat.
Route is here https://connect.garmin.com/app/course/493804983
